Who goes to work knowing they aren’t getting paid? We did, throughout October to highlight Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental Health is a matter close to my heart having affected close family members and friends. We reached out to a number of not for profit groups and corporations to discuss how we might be able to collaborate.
We were fortunate enough to work with some fantastic not for profits and charities, and facilitate our Introduction to Mindfulness Program.
Some of the highlights were Launch Housing, who are one of Victoria’s largest providers of housing and homelessness support services, and TLC for Kids who are a leading Australian children’s charity helping sick kids and their families cope with the challenges of everyday life with illness.
Our Introduction to Mindfulness Talks were also delivered to a number of corporate organisations including Ray White Real Estate.
We decided to offer our complete four week Introduction to Mindfulness Program to charities and not-for-profit organisations. For small businesses we offered an Introduction to Mindfulness Talk. A short talk which is a great introduction to mindfulness meditation, and how it can help reduce stress and increase your focus and productivity
Through the month we were able to donate over 12 hours of face-to-face training, which translates to more than $4,800 worth of services delivered free of charge. That doesn’t include time spent preparing, coordinating or getting to and from each session.
The impact we can have is one of our core values and so we’ve chosen to operate as a social enterprise. Our philanthropic quota ensures that for every 5 hours of corporate training that we invoice, we also donate 1 hour to a charity or not-for-profit group.
We teach practical mindfulness tools that are science based and easy for people to implement in their everyday lives. Part of that is helping people understand their stress levels and manage those using mindfulness.
We’ve received the most beautiful responses from attendees. It was touching to see how much people appreciated us giving our time. We had great feedback about the programs and how simple they were.
It was a humbling experience.
The short meditations were a huge hit, especially the Jelly Bean meditation! Where we tune into each of our senses in turn, using jelly beans to explore our sense of taste. We also learnt that people were incredibly surprised to find out how long they had been meditating for. Ten minutes sounds like a long time, but it flies by pretty quickly in meditation.
Our aim is always to keep things simple and teach people methods they can take away and use again and again. I’m confident from the feedback we’ve received that we achieved that. Mindfulness meditation can be so much fun when you make it easy. Our ongoing goal is to teach as many people as possible using our adaptive and practical methods.

Staff and clients were extremely appreciative to be provided with the skills, strategies and tools to be able to use mindfulness in any situation.
Many staff commented on the fact that working in such a highly stressful field can take its toll. Staff felt that being provided with the skills taught by Here Now Group strengthened capacity to use the skills within both work and personal life in order to relax, handle situations with more ease and to be more present in the moment. Clients stated it relaxed them and made them realise how easy it can be to be more mindful.

A few of our staff had heard of mindfulness before, while others hadn’t and were unsure of what to expect. We were all blown away at the depth of Stephanie’s knowledge. Her passion was evident and she explained in detail the benefits of mindfulness meditation inside and outside the workplace.
